To achieve the strict requirements for rapidness of the data acquisition and precision of data transmission during project of making B-DOFS (Distributed Optical Fibre Sensor based on brillouin scatter) sample machine. A design approach for real-time data acquisition and remote transmission system based on FPGA technology is achieved. The approach adopts an overall structure of ARM+FPGA and realizes a real-time signal processing assembly line of data acquisition, storage, signal/noise processing, and transmission control. By porting Linux OS and the TCP/IP stack protocol for the remote embedded subsystem, we successfully implement the long-distance data transmission and remote control.The system could divide into two parts: data acquisition and processing subsystem based FPGA and data control subsystem based on ARM9 embedded board. The paper firstly introduces the data processing units one by one and the relations between each units of FPGA subsystem, and followed with questions of how to access the FPGA and what is the access address from the CPU's point. Then, the paper give an outline of program design methods above Linux user-space and the driver design under Linux kernel-space, related to aspect of software design of whole ARM9 based subsystem, including main control program, server process and the low-level driver for FPGA. In order to implement the fast speed of data transfer between FPGA subsystem and ARM9 based control subsystem, we define a "data bus access protocol" by ourself. This solution also provides a socket server for long-distance data transfer and an embedded Web server for remote client downloading ActiveX control. This ActiveX control is used to view the datasheet and to control the remote machine through internet or local LAN.The approach is applied in B-DOFS sample machine.
