Analysis And Design Of IT Configuration Management Data Model Based On Hierarchical Domain

With the continous growth of IT resources and the more complex IT environment, IT departments of enterprises and government are beginning to widely apply ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) as a standard to implement their ITSM (Information Technology Service Management). According to ITIL, the foundation of ITSM is designing a data model of CMDB including IT infrastructures and IT services. However, counting complicated IT resources and building up a CMDB are the most complex and most challenging work in ITIL. Therefore, an effective CMDB model could provide a big value to enterprises, as it assists enterprises to enhance the level of ITSM and resolve incidents and problems.Based on ITIL and SID (Shared Information/Data) model, an service-oriented IT configuration management data model is presented in this paper.Firstly, this paper describes the study background, purpose and meaning, as well as the research objectives of this article, scope and innovation points. According to the description of CMDB in ITIL and the existing research results, this paper introduces eight requirements of configuration management data model. Then, this paper presents a brief introduction and comparison of IMM (Internet Management Model), CIM (Commen Information Model) and SID. According to comparison, all three models partly meet the requirements of CMDB model. After studing from three models, this paper proposes a modeling method for CMDB model. Using this method, a configuration management data model is analysed and designed. This model contains several domains, which is the main idea of SID, as well as particular elements from ITIL such as IT services, life-cycle of configuration item, process management records etc. Then, to verify the validity of the model, this paper demonstrats an implement of configuration management system based on this model. In the final part of the paper, there is a summarize about the whole paper and point out inadequacies of this model and future research directions.
