As the development of science and technology, and the changing of internet and various communications technology which has been exist in every corn of everyday life. Conception of internet has been known for a long time, and both the amount of information and the complexity of the internet have been increasing. In this situation, the absent of related management rule will result in generation of many problems. It becomes necessary to take some measures to manage the internet so that the reliability and stability of the internet could be granteed and the information in the internet could be spread safely, reliably and effectively.Simple Network Management Protocol comes into being in eighties of the 20th century, and it has been the most widely used network management protocol in the TCP/IP network. RFC 1157 defined the first version of the SNMP in May,1990. The file provides a system method for monitoring and managing the internet with another file named RFC 1155. In the other hand, SNMP has less requirement to lower level service, which makes it could adapt other protocol easily. It is the advantages in the two facts that makes SNMP widely used, and becomes the criterion in the field of network management,Against to the demand of network management based the monitor system with option fiber sensing, the article describes the overall design of the network management module based the Simple Network Management Protocol, and the implement of the two important components of the management platform.The article includes the following parts mainly: 1. Overviews the whole monitor system, and presents both network management and Simple Network Management Protocol. Moreover, proposes the necessary of the network management module according to the design of the whole system.2. Describes the SNMP in details. It includes the background and history of the protocol, the network management model of SNMP and the analysis of SNMP. Defines the model is composed with Manager, Agent, MIB and SNMP. Introduces the five kinds of package struct and related operation.3. Focus on the architecture of SNMP. The architecture is composed with SMI, MIB and SNMP. Because both SMI and MIB are defined by ASN.1, the article gives some introduction of ASN.1. All above pave the way for the development of agent later mentioned in the article, because one importance in the development of agent is the definition of MIB for the system.4. Implements the design and development of the manager belongs to the network management module with software package named SNMP++ developed by HP Company. Implements the Get, Set and receive and process of Trap from manager to agent. And complete the test of function by get, set and wrong operation (the trap would be sent when the set value beyond the realm).5. Implements the design and development of the agent belongs to the network management module with software packages named SNMP++ and agent++ developed by HP Company. Implements receive and process of Get, Set and send of Trap. And completes the function test with the related operation of laser power.
