The background of this thesis is the new network architecture called SUPA (Single physical layer User-data transfer & switching Platform Architecture) aiming at Next Generation Internet. To simplify the User-data transfer & switching platform into a single layer, a novel technique called EPFTS (Ethernet-oriented Physical Frame Timeslot Switching) is introduced. EPFTS combines the framing and switching functions of the data link layer with multiplexing function to a physical channel.The work presented in this thesis is management platform and related network management protocol in SUPANET. Based on the existing network management protocol, it promotes a network management protocol mechanism under the SUPANET environment which is propitious to managing QoS service of network.The thesis first introduces the basic concept and principle of SUPANET and EPFTS briefly, and then discusses the QoS guarantee mechanism in U-platform and S&M-platform in detail by illustrating the processes of one virtual path (The processes include resource request and negotiation, connection establishing and ending, and congestion control etc). With the information, the author summarizes the QoS parameters which are needed in SUPANET and defines the typical functional groups of QoS-based network management. With analyzing the existing network management protocols, such as SNMP, CMIS/CMIP detailedly and based on SNMP, the thesis designs a management information base of single node in SUPANET, which is called QoS-MIB and can manage conventional networks and SUPANET.Because of the great differences between single-layer U-platform and 5-layer S&M-platform, information exchange in these two platforms is accomplished by Intra-node Access Interface (IAI) rather than protocols which are only used in the same layer. So, the way of collecting QoS information in SUPANET is different from traditional way. In SUPANET, QoS information is transferred to S&M-platform through IAI, and then transferred to manager using SNMP. The author redefines the parameters of protocol data unit and also defines the interface between network management layer and IAI.At last, the author designs a system to test the QoS-MIB. The results indicate that the design principle of QoS-MIB is feasible and valuable for further research.The thesis's main contributions can be summarized as:(1) Considering the QoS characteristics in SUPANET and based on SNMP, it promotes a network management protocol mechanism under the SUPANET environment which is propitious to managing QoS service of network.(2) To satisfy the information exchange between U-platform and S&M-platform, it modifies the PDU of IAI and defines the interface between network management layer and IAI.
