Research And Implementation Of Network Management Agent Based On SNMP

Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP) is the standard protocol in TCP/IP network management, and agent is the pivotal entity in the architecture of the network management. Agent is a kind of software lying in the managed network devices, which can access their run-time status, system properties and configuring parameters. Agent is the middle interface between its host deveice and the manager software.This paper introduces the basic model of network management and the framework of SNMP. Then it analyses the difficulty to extending the current SNMP agents brought about by their non-opening processing method. To deal with the problem, this paper puts forward a framework of extensible SNMP agent,which is made up of five modules:communication module, ASN.l encoding and decoding module, message processing module, MIB management module and inner supporting module. This paper gives the discription of the design idea and realization method to each module in detail.The generic SNMP agent implemented in this paper is transplantable, and can be widely used in various of network deveices.
