In recent years, highway transport industry has made great progress. At present, the major structure style of Chinese high-type highway is asphalt pavement, thus the asphalt mixture performance directly influences the serviceability and service life of highway. The detection of asphalt mixture has important theoretical significance and practical value in the application of highway's asphalt surface. With the development of the digital image processing (DIP) technology, many algorithms have been more and more mature.Digital image processing is used in the detection of the asphalt in this thesis. First of all, basic knowledge of the asphalt mixture is introduced, and much study is done on image gray processing, image enhancement, image smoothing, image segmentation, image edge detection, mathematical morphology processing, image contour tracking, image contour extraction, target area marker of asphalt mixture image in this thesis. The hardware equipment is proposed to obtain asphalt mixture digital image, including line scan cameras, image acquisition card, infrared laser lighting equipment. Implemented by programming to extract the particle's area, perimeter, height, width etc through image binarization, contour tracking and contour extraction on the basis of the Integrated Development Environment of Visual C++.NET. And through the gray value difference, the volume proportion of the asphalt mixture's composition is also calculated. The passing rate of the particles is calculated by the area. The thesis also the design gradation and detection gradation are compared and analyzed. The grading curve of the asphalt mixture is drawn.
