With the development of the communications industry, the success of GSM has also prompted a awareness of the importance of the SIM card.Currently, Mobile phones and SIM cards are building a new global market. With the increasing competition of this market, more and more operators plan to build a business platform to support value-added services. SIM Card and GSM system as an innovation become more and more popular. SIM card, as principal interaction between mobile devices and GSM system, achieves a number of personalized services, including information download, call control and other functions. This technique is known as SIM Application Toolkit (SIM Application Toolkit-SAT).Based on the original SIM card passive mode of operation, SAT/USAT Added the new SIM card capacity of active operation which allows SIM card applications and services take the initiative to interact with mobile terminal. Before SAT/USAT application technology, the relationship between the phone and SIM card is master and slave. It means that SIM card is totally in a passive acceptance of mobile instruction, and Phone is in the absolute Active Control status. Any action can only be initiated by phone, and responded by SIM. The biggest flaws are that SIM card does not have the initiative, so it is not easy to develop the SIM card mobile value-added business. SAT/USAT brings brilliant opportunities to value-added business. SIM could support abundant functionalities via SAT/USAT.The SAT application functionality needs the following 3 contents:SIM application applet, SAT component in mobile termination and network support. This article is based on SAT component in Symbian OS and S60 mobile devices, and also some network and SIM at the same time as precondition. As we all know, it is difficult to show the SIM and network content directly, but it is very simple for mobile device. SAT, as the component of S60, mainly focuses on show contents which is supported by SIM application applet, and communicate with end user. During this article, I finished the design and implementation of SAT component of S60, and it is based on the Symbian OS and S60 platform. Symbian, which support all operate system features, and object oriented language, is an operate system only for smart mobile devices. S60 is a customized GUI toolkit and platform. This SAT component development is based on Symbian OS and S60 platform, using object oriented Symbian C++. SIM and network development is not involved too much, only give some discussions from testing and precondition point of view. This article contains studying and analyzing the SAT component requirement, and building integrated development environment, and designing the architecture of SAT component and building the integrated testing system. Achieve all features of SAT component should supported after studying the programming technical skill and common design in Symbian OS.At last, I give a porting proposal and pre-studies about how to port SAT component to the updated S60 platform.
