Visual specified network VPN is the one deployed in the publicnetwork infrastructure. It is defined that with a public network (usuallyinternet) one safe and temporary link can be established as a safe andstable channel through the chaotic public network. VPN may help thelong-distance user, the company branch office, the commercial partner andthe supplier establish a credible safe connection with company's intranetand guarantees the data the safe transmission. VPN has received thewidespread application by its inexpensive price, the convenientdeployment, the expansion performance and so on. But the VPN securityproblem is also not allowed to neglect, mainly manifests in its userauthentication, basically on the password authentication, but under thepresent network condition, the password is extremely easy to reveal, bringing the hidden danger for the VPN network security. Based on the basic theory of coding and digital certificate technology, the thesis dictates using smartcard as the way of VPN users' verificationcould solve the safety problem of VPN with easy in use, low cost andeasy accessibility. The type of VPN Safety couldn't be decoded both intheory and in practice.The thesis systematically describes the theoretical foundation andpractical blueprint of the solution. Firstly it analyzes VP system and itsexisting problems. Secondly it studies the practical blueprint of the publickey and secret key system in the coding—digital certificate andsmartcards.The study undertakes the significant exploration on the safety of VPNuser verification. It shows VPN network with smartcard verification isreliable and feasible.
