MSC POOL technology is based on 3GPP TS23.236 "Intra-domain connection of Radio Access Network (RAN) nodes to multiple Core Network (CN) Nodes".MSC POOL technology breaks the limitation of one-to-one controlling relationship between BSC/RNC and MSC,and connects BSC/RNC nodes to multiple MSC nodes because a number of CN nodes is grouped together to a server pool. All the nodes of a domain in such a pool area share the responsibility for handling all Ues'in the pool area. So each UE in the pool area may potentially be served by any MSC of the pool area. The purpose of connecting BSC/RNC nodes to multiple MSC nodes is to increase service availability, reduce signalling traffic in the CN, achieve load balancing within certain CN areas and support easier CN capacity expansion.MSC POOL technoligy was commercialed by overseas operators, and is promoting actively by China Mobile. How to implement MSC POOL networking rationally at different stage of 3G network, achive rational investment and relatively minor alteration are provotal problems which operators pay attention on.In the meantime,a series of problems about MSC POOL networking cries for solution, such as the selection of NNSF (NAS Node Selection Function) algorithm proposed by various manufacturers, the programme of NRI (Network Resource Identifier) and pool aera.On purpose of solving these problems, this paper analyses different plan on different stage of netwok, mainly studies the key technical problems and proposes feasible scheme. At last, based on the above results, this paper put forward a scheme on MSC POOL networking of China Mobile Communications Corporation Xi'an Branch core network.
