With the rapid development of automobile industry and die CAD technology, completing die design of auto parts with high quality and high efficiency has increasingly become one of the most important issues in automobile manufacturing industry. The forming process of wheels, which is the most important part of cars, has high a higher demand on the die. In view of liquid forging process having both the advantages of casting and forging process, using the liquid forging technology on production technique of automotive wheels will be more extensively, so taking the liquid forging die CAD technology of J-and B-series light alloy automotive wheels with 5°deep-trough wheel rim in GB/T3487-2005 as the research object, this issue aims at developing a convenient and practical liquid forging die CAD system for wheels based on Pro/E system.Through the analysis and comparison of several kinds of programming environment and developing technology, the development technology route of liquid forging die CAD system for wheels, with the major development steps were establishing parametric model library, creating every parameter database, designing every CAD system interface and writing the code to achieve the CAD system functions, was established based on visual C++ 6.0 as the programming environment, powerful Pro/TOOLKIT development kit of Pro/E system as the secondary developing tool, object-oriented programming method and database access technology based on ODBC class as the secondary development technology. With the use of the powerful "Parameter" and "Relation" function of Pro/E system, based on the three-dimensional models of a liquid forging die with rational structure for the wheel with 16×7J size, the parametric design purpose, which was using the parameters of the wheel part to drive the structure size of every part of the die changing, was achieved and the parametric model library of every mechanism and every part of the liquid forging die.With the powerful, convenient and practical Access database management system as the platform, every parameter database, including the standard parameter database of series wheels with 5°deep-trough wheel rim, the wheels'materials parameter database, the liquid forging process parameter database of wheels'materials, the technical parameter database of hydraulic forging equipments and the size parameter database of standard templates of liquid forging die, was created, which can improve the practicality and standardization of the CAD system.According to normalized design steps of liquid forging die for wheels, a complete set of dialog resources corresponding with the die design steps each to each was designed with the use of creating resource function in VC++. These dialog resources were the main operation interfaces when users used this CAD system, so the operation interfaces of main die design steps in liquid forging die design, including the CAD design of wheels, making the liquid forging drawing and liquid forging process parameters, the CAD design of every module of the liquid forging die (including working parts module, open-close mechanism module, connecting mechanism module, push mechanism module and so on), were covered.Based on a highly object-oriented and powerful MFC in VC++, after a series of works, which included all the classes creating based on achieved dialog resources, the message response function adding of the controls with different functions in the dialogs, the writing of the program codes which can achieve the function of every message response function and so on, the development of the liquid forging die CAD system for wheel was achieved finally by using of object-oriented programming method of C++ language, and the successfully registering and running of the CAD system in Pro/E system was implemented.The running of this CAD system was successfully tested in the issue, with the liquid forging die design of aluminum alloy automotive wheel with 15 X 6J size as the example at last.
