With the development of the embedded technology and network technology, the research of Embedded Remote Monitoring Technique has made further progress, also more and more enterprise and institution for scientific research focus on this field, while the security area upon these technique is the one of major concerns. Analyzing the system structure of the present monitoring system, this paper proposes a construction project of remote monitoring system based on camera that is appropriate for the small-scale applications.Although the Embedded Remote Monitoring Technology and Embedded E-MAIL Technology has been quite advanced, as well as some remote monitoring system is combined with E-MAIL Technology, the construction project of the Remote Monitoring System, basd on the Embedded Remote Monitoring Technology and E-MAIL technology, is yet for the rare. In this paper, system design example under this project is provided for illustrating the feasibility and application value of the project. The development process of the example completes the following work:First, It carries out the construction of the hardware system which takes ARM920T as its processor core. Key technology is selected. Storage capacity is estimated, as well as the hardware modules is connected each other.Then, the establishment of cross-compilation environment is completed. The Bootloader, the embedded Linux kernel, the file system and the drive are transplanted, as well as the gathering image based on V4L and the compression of image based on JPEG2000 standard are realized. Meanwhile, the system can transmit e-mail with attachment based on internet protocol, including SMTP protocol and the MIME protocol, etc.The system mainly holds the following characteristics:1.The structure of hardware system is simple, which is made up of necessary elements including the processor memory,power and reset circuit,network interfaces. Therefore, the hardware is low-cost, and the monitoring equipment is small in size.2. The USB HUG is attached to ARM chip. So the system is convenient to be configured with camera.3. Because of adopting E-MAIL technique, the way of obtaining surveillance image is so simple that users could keep track of monitoring information by checking e-mail. At the same time, the security rate of the data increases because image data is stored off-site and multiplely back-uped.
