In Late Ching Dynasty, a newspaper man named Peng Yizhong has created three newspapers successfully, especially the "Jinghua Daily" which was known as the first vernacular newspaper in Beijing and one of the most popular newspapers for the time being. Newspapers are the main carriers of triggering public opinions and leading the Enlightenment. Peng Yizhong's success in the newspaper industry has greatly promoted the development of the Enlightenment in depth, thus he cannot be ignored in the history of modern China's Enlightenment. With newspapers as the main carrier and public opinions as the core, He enriched the content of the Enlightenment, enlarge the number of the audience, and make the path more special and the effects more remarkable. What's more, his pioneering spirit of selling family properties to relieve the distress of people and enduring great hardships can be set as examples for the later comers. In the late Qing Dynasty's harsh environment of public opinion, Peng Yizhong made great achievements in the development of the newspaper industry. He made great innovation in the marketing strategies and the combination with the Enightment and some other aspects, from which the later practitioners have learned and inherited a lot. During his career in the press, dealing with the relationship with the Qing authorities is essential to the rise and fall of its newspapers. Scholars have mentioned the accomplishment of Peng Yizhong and his "Jinghua Daily", but it is possible and necessary to make further studies in clarifying the whole process of evolution of the relationship between the authority of late Qing Dynasty and Peng Yizhong, revealing the paradox between the newspaper business and the ideals of the Enlightenment, the influences that public opinion impact on political affairs, and the harsh living conditions of the newspaper man.
