As a most influential and rallying media form in late Qing Dynasty, woman’s newspapers and periodicals played an important intermediary role in spreading new ideas and making female elite gathered, they also made enormous strides for the evolution of Chinese female literature from ancient to modern. At that time, influenced by particular social ideology and context, women’s writing showed mixed characteristics of new ideas with old ones.This thesis consists of four parts. The preface offers the author’s definition of the research subject, the research valve and the current research situation; The following part provides a general picture of the rise of woman’s newspapers and periodicals from1898to1911, then points out the causes as well as process of the combination of women’s writing and press; The third part is designed to explore the two or multi-folded articulations between the modern nationality discourse and the feminine discourse, using several hot topics on women’s magazines as research subjects. In the end, this thesis studies the women’s writing on these newspapers and periodicals, so as to examine new changes on themes, values, narrative style or other aspects and analyze its transition characteristics, the last part sums up the historical function and disadvantages of such creative transformation for Chinese female literature.
