With the rapid economic development and the rising levels of industrialization, the natural environment has been severely damaged. Although the government has began to pay more and more attention to the environment protection,our environment monitoring system is relatively backward, which is mainly based on artificial acquisition and laboratory analysis. Since the monitoring locations are scattered, it is inconvenient to unify the data management, if the data is collected through manpower. Also, it would be inefficient if the data is collected through wire, which requires transportation wire and consumes lots of material resources. For the above problems, an environment monitoring system based on GPRS and ARM technique is researched and implemented in this paper.Firstly, the theory of the GPRS technology and ARM technology are studied in this paper, the functional requirements of the monitoring system are analyzed, then the overall structure of the system is designed, which comprises three parts:monitor, GPRS communication network and monitoring center software. The monitor uses LPC2220 as its control core which is a ARM7 microcontroller, sensors collect the data of SO2, temperature and humidity, then the GPRS module transfers these data according the GPRS to the monitoring center software which is on the server. Also, the hardware is designed, including main control circuit, signal acquisition circuit, communication circuit and voltage transfer module circuit. What's more, the anti-interference about the hardware is considered.Secondly, the debug environment of embedded system is built in this paper,μC/OS-II is transplanted into the ARM development platform, the drive of every hardware is designed, and the application program is divided into 6 tasks, the filtering algorithm is used to deal with the environment data, the monitoring center software is designed based on WinSock and MySQL database technology, which has the function of real-time data view, historical data query, chart analysis and print etc.Finally, the field test results show that the system can achieve the purpose of wireless transmission, real-time and continuous monitoring of the SO2, temperature and humidity. Moreover, the system works stably. The system proposed in this paper uses the existing GPRS and Internet network, links the isolated environment monitoring areas to a major regional environment monitoring network and provides a more effective way for environment protection.
