Vehicle traveling data recorder is a digital electronic recording device used in the car. It can store the speed, time, mileage and brake state information, which can be exported by USB or serial port. The use of auto recorder plays an important part in bounding drivers'behavior, analyzing traffic accidents, improving traffic management and transportation management level.The current vehicle traveling data recorder technology is relatively mature, low-end products generally use 8-bit or 16-bit microcontroller as the main processor, while high-end use 32-bit ARM processor, but these products generally can only be used to record and monitor car. The system which contains the basic functions of the recorder, based on GPS and GPRS modules can position and transfer data, and combine with database technology and monitor software. It can achieve all-round monitoring of vehicles and drivers, scheduling and management.The hardware and software design and implementation of vehicle monitoring system are described. Vehicle control system development and market situation are first introduced. Specific requirements on the system and implementation functions are put forward. In the flowing part main functions of various parts of hardware modules are described in detail. The modifications of Bootstrap, U-boot and Linux kernel in this system and the method of making Ramdisk root system, and main program are introduced in software part. Finally a summary and outlook of real-time monitoring system are proposed.
