A Research Into How To Improve The Migrant Workers' Scientific Literacy Through Mass Communication

Migrant worker is the major part of floating population in our country. At the present stage, migrant workers would constitute the principle part of population movements based on basic national conditions and demographic trends, which phenomenon will exist for a long time in the future. In cities, the method of solving migrant workers' problems, such as employment, to a large extent depends on their own level of education and vocational skills. When migrant workers are facing problems of finding a job, the Government would often intervene configure of labor market. However, through deep-rooted analysis of social factors beyond the surface, it is known that generally this phenomenon is mainly due to the inferior scientific literacy (including working skills) of the migrant workers'After the migrant workers come into city, improving their scientific literacy is one of the most effective ways of enhancing their vocational skills. Only after the full absorption of new scientific blood can they strengthen their standing room in the city. As a dominating social information accessing platform, the mass media becomes the most convenient and feasible way for them to enhance their scientific literacy.Therefore, the problem of how to make migrant workers understand technological knowledge and how to improve their scientific literacy, is not only of great significance to this kind of human group, but also has an essential meaning to the promotion of modernization and socio-economic development.First of all, we define the basic concepts and the characteristics of migrant workers, scientific literacy, science communication and media effects theory. Our data reveal that migrant workers contact televisions most often. Therefore, combining with the previous part of the research, I choose television media as a model for empirical study and summed up basic situations of this type of media in science communication. According to the theory of media effects, considering elements such as migrant workers, mass media, government, information and enterprises, I try to design a mass communication system to improve the migrant workers'scientific literacy. Finally, integrated with Chinese national conditions,I propose a solution to improve the migrant workers'scientific literacy at this stage.
