With the rapid development of human society, computer technology and communication technology has been raised. Computer networks have occupied an increasingly important position in production and life, and have been applied to each field of the human life. Computer network technology has played a very important role for the rapid development of society. Among all kinds of the information technology, the Internet runs most successfully and maturely. From birth to today, Internet has completely changed the original state of society, which is known as one of the representative new technologies in the 21th century. From the birth of Internet, IPv4 Protocol, as the foundation and soul of network, has had an indelible contribution for the development of Internet network. Although the IPv4 protocol running in current Internet network is very mature and forms the basis of Internet, for the rapid development of network and the limitations of IPv4 protocol itself, the IPv4 protocol has revealed more and more shortcomings which are difficult to be overcome, and has been difficult to adapt to the development of Internet networks in the future. In order to solve the difficulties faced by Internet ,and to change the inherent network based on IPv4 protocol, IETF developed the IPv6 protocol.As a new generation of network protocol, IPv6 protocol has solved many shortcomings of the IPv4 protocol, and optimized other important functions. Among them, large IP address space, optimized speed and high security are the salient features. Although the IPv6 protocol has so many advantages, and it is imperative and necessary for Internet to develop to IPv6 network,]it is a long process transforming from from IPv4 protocol to IPv6 protocol. Moreover, a number of standards and experiments about the IPv6 network are under way. Therefore, in the transition process, the design of transitional strategies, which ensure a smooth transition of the network becomes particularly important.This paper introduces and compares the characteristics of two kinds of protocolsā€”IPv4 and IPv6. It explains the importance, necessity and choice of transformed strategy from the IPv4 network to IPv6 network. This paper introduces three kinds of transition methods . dual stack,tunneling and Protocol conversion technology. CERNET2 network connecting many campus networks is the backbone network of IPv6 network, through which colleges and universities can share educational resources. Chaoyang Teachers College campus network is a typically medium-sized network, so this paper expatiates several major transitional strategies supported by Chaoyang Teachers College campus network. It is sure that the smooth upgrade mechanism from IPv4 network to IPv6 network will play a very important role in the promotion of Internet.
