With the advancement of society and the rapid development of economy, archival management is facing new historic opportunities and challenges coming from the conversion process of old and new institutional. Under this kind of situation, what should the government departments do to improve the archival management and to present the role of archival work? This thesis is trying to solve the problem by studying archival management of Ming Dynasty, which is a way of mirroring the present through history.Ming Dynasty is an important period in our history, for example, the natural economic patterns reached a peak; the capitalism was emerging and the feudal centralized system, with nearly thousands of years, has reached a complete level. At the same time, Ming Dynasty also attaches great importance to the archival work; they changed the mess-up condition of last period into good order and clearly established ownership, which gives us lots of valuable experience.Though there are various differences between Ming Dynasty and nowadays in background of archives management, social system, economic basis, and the value orientation, many microcosmic links can still be compared, such as , organization structure, administration settings, operational mechanism, and management concepts. Therefore, it is necessary and feasible to study the archives management of Ming Dynasty.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the archival system settings and management functions of Ming Dynasty, and gives a detailed analysis of the government managements from the central to local government at various levels. Chapter two illustrates the characteristics of archival work from its administration settings, the archival government system and the archival application. Also the author posts a comment on archival work from the respects of the analysis of achievements on the archival governments, its influence, the times and class character. In chapter three, the author analyze the causes and inadequate of archival government through showing the current situation of our administrative system of archival undertaking , the functions and powers of the central government and local authorities in archival managements. In chapter four, the author discusses the enlightenments about the archival management left by Ming Dynasty for our current work, from the following points: the archives organization, the role of government, the archival management public-oriented, and the improvement on laws and systems about archival management.
