Mao Kun is a modern Chinese Librarian,bibliographer and archivist.He is one of the earliest people who initiated archival science and taught Archival Science in Boone Library School.Mao Kun has published more than 30 articles in professional journals and made important contributions to the development of theory of Library Science,bibliography,and Archival Science.Archives Economy written by Mao Kun is used as the earliest teaching material of archival science and has been used for a long time.In Mao Kun's articles and writings,a large number of Western archival science achievements have been referenced,promoting the dissemination of Western archives.Mao Kun roughed out the Draft Regulations of China National Archives,providing a reference for the planning of Chinese National Archives.Mao Kun began taking part in archival education since 1934 and ended in 1947.He has trained a large number of archival talents,who have made a great difference in the field of archives.The study of Mao Kun is of great significance for deepening the understanding of the early archival scholars in China,sorting out the early archival thoughts and exploring the source and development of archival education in China.The study of Mao Kun and archival education in modern history of China has a certain reference value to the modern archival education and archives work in ChinaThe article is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction.The process and significance of this topic are explained in detail,the studies of Mao Kun by domestic and foreign scholars are summed up,the reasons for the late start of research on Mao Kun are explored,and the research methods,innovation and limitations are explained.The second part is the introduction of Mao Kun's life experience.Mao Kun's life experience has a distinct stage characteristic.In consideration of Mao Kun's growth,knowledge,teaching experience,Mao Kun's life is divided into four stages.Combined with the background of the times,this paper analyzes and introduces the experience that may have important influence on Mao Kun's personal temperament,ways of behaving,research,teaching ideas and activities.The third part introduces the reasons and conditions for Mao Kun's undertaking archival education.The reasons for Mao Kun's undertaking archival education are mainly divided into two aspects:needs for archivists by society and Mao Kun's subjective cognizance.The conditions for Mao Kun's undertaking archival education are mainly divided into three aspects:learning from the ancient times,drawing lessons from western achievements,adopting knowledge of the time,relying on similar disciplines,clinging to the dominant resources.The fourth part is the contribution of Mao Kun to archival education.The contribution of Mao Kun to Chinese archival education includes not only the precedent of archival teaching,but also the preparation of teaching materials,the formulation of courses and the introduction of theories,his professionalism also has certain enlightenment and inspiration to students,relatives and friends.The fifth part is the enlightenment and reference to contemporary archival education.The study on Mao Kun and archival education in modern history of China has certain reference value for the running of our modern archival education,archival science enrollment and archival science teaching.The sixth part is the conclusion of the paper.The experience,thoughts,achievements,spiritual character of Mao Kun and the author's thoughts in the study of Mao Kun and archival education in modern history of China are summed up.
