With the development of sensor and computer technology, Visual Servo system has been widely used in industry. The important part of Visual Servo system is image acquisition and processing system, which is used to image acquisition and processing in front of the whole system. The quality of image acquisition and real-time performance for processing affect the whole system, hence which is play an important role in Visual Servo system.This paper investigates image acquisition and processing system based on DSP and USB considering real-time performance and portable design. The main contributions of the research work presented in this paper are as follows:(1) The general scheme of the image acquisition and processing system is proposed. The CMOS sensor, DSP, USB interface chip are selected. The hardware design between camera and DSP and the hardware design between DSP and USB chip are completed. The PCB layout of USB interface chip with protel DXP is designed.(2) The programming for image acquisition and processing is designed based on DSP/BIOS embedded system, and edge detection is realized. The validity of the testing results by hardware emulator is showed the real-time performance of the design.(3) USB driver programming based on WDM and application programming based on DirectShow are designed. The programming is displayed in PC.
