The paper mainly studies on the IR image acquisition and processing technology based on the project of multi-sensor battlefield awareness system of a vehicle.Firstly, an IR acquisition card based on CPCI is designed according to the front-end performance and the output signal succession of the infrared sensor. In the design, the FIFO is used as the frame buffer to satisfy the request of the great data quantity real-time transmission. CPCI controller S5933 is used to shorten development cycle. CPLD is used to control other modules in the IR acquisition system. The DMA mode is adopted to control the transmission of high-speed image data in CPCI bus of the IR card. Device drive based on CPCI is developed according to the communication request of the IR acquisition card and computer.Secondly, under the conditions of low SNR complicated background of small and weak infrared detection technology is a hot issue. The main methods of infrared small and weak target are summarized. Then the paper presented a method for infrared small target based on particle filter. We take three typical target tracking models as an example to present tracking experiment based on particle filter, and mainly analyzed parameters to effect tracking performance of PF. Moreover, according to the parameters and the characteristic of infrared small target, the paper adopted histogram of the gray scale model structure as a target of observation probability model, and used Bhattacharyya coefficient measurement the similarity to realize the weak infrared target tracking.Finally, based on the above design and the research, overall design and operation principle is improved and designed for the infrared system. Moreover, the infrared acquisition card and algorithm have been applied in the actual system, it is showed through surveying that the designed IR acquisition card could be high speed and real-time to complete the infrared image acquisition task. We present tracking experiments to deal with partial occlusion of target in the image sequence process, and accurately carried on the track to the infrared small target,and has a good stability.
