Along with the improvement of plastic performance and the development of mold technology, more and more products are substituted by plastic products. Our country's industry of injection mold is developed rapidly, nowly, the injection mold takes part of 1/3 in the whole production of plastic mold. With the development of plastic industry, the variety and quantity of plastic products are increased continually, products renovate quickly, and the new requirements to quality and style bring forward continuously, contemporary the requirements to injection mold are more and more high and design and production cycle are as short as possible. Traditional softwares of mold CAD depend on the experience and knowledge of designer and design efficiency and quality can't satisfy the requirements of mold.Intelligent and automation is a main development direction of mold design. This topic introduces expert system into mold design and concentrates on the fundamental research and software development of cooling system basing on deep research of mold design, depengding on SolidWorks platform and using VB program.Cooling system is an important link in injection mold design and it directly influences the quality and efficiency of product. Firstly, this article introduces injection mold's characteristic as well as the design process of traditional injection mold, then proposes the overall project of injection mold CAD system, finally aims in cooling system. Analyze the influence factor of cooling system, summarize the arrangement principle and commonly used cooling loop's type, and determine the related parameters.This article summarizes the cooling knowledge, unifies characteristic of mold design knowledge, and establishes cooling system knowledge base of injection mold using rule representation; introduces the expert system to decide the cooling loop's plan by using reasoning system to reason and analyze mold knowledge; realizes automatic design of cooling system by automatic loading model through automatic assembly technology and then driving parameter. The entire design process completes automatically by the computer, does not need the mold designer's calculation, reduces the effect of designer who is insufficient in experience, avoids the nonessential human error and raises the efficiency and quality greatly.Simultaneously this article also carries on the design and the development of read-write function, to realize date transmission and up-to -date. Perfecting design of mold core and mold cavity, and enhances system's automatic and commonality.
