Mold plays an important role in product manufacturing industry, and the electrode is anessential tool for the mold manufacturing. As the scale of mold manufacturing enterpriseexpanding and demand of their clients increasing, the quantity and type of the electrodessutured, which makes the management of the electrodes become more complex and difficult. The traditional manpower supervisor mode already cannot meet the requirements of dailyproductivity. A management mode that can efficiently manage the various electrodes is muchdesired. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is novel information software, following theERP, CRM and SCM software, which vigorously promote the progress in informatization ofthe manufacturing enterprise.Based on the concept of PLM, an electrode management system was developed in thisthesis, which combined the design management, manufacturing management, warehousemanagement and user management into one system. This thesis firstly analyzed the researchstatus of PLM application and explained the relationship between electrode managementsystem and PLM. Secondly, the paper summarizes the concepts of electrical dischargemachining (EDM) technology and PLM and then analyzes the functional requirements of theelectrode management system for the injection mold, including process information and dataanalysis, document management and process management, etc. This paper also provides abrief introduction to the Unified Molding Language (UML) technology, which is applied tobuild the static model and dynamic model of the system. Afterwards, a variety of techniqueswere included to complete the development of electrode management system, such as VisualC++, UG/Open API and SQL Server2000, integrating PLM with UG system by UGsecondary development interface, and access technology of two-layer C/S architecture. At last, threes running instances are presented to reflect the effects of system design. At last, threeinstances are presented in Chapter5to demonstrate the management process of the designmanagement model, maufacture management model and warehouse management model. The electrode management system developed in this thesis can achieve real-timemonitoring and management of the electrodes in all aspects, from concept, design, manufacturing, technology, purchasing, quality to the end of using and warehouse. By usingthis system, the time spent on the preparation and manufacture of electrodes can bedramatically reduced, which will increase the efficiency of mold production and savemanufacturing costs, and then makes the mold enterprise more competitive.
