By now, the router and the 2-lay switch are well developed.The demand of joining these tow equipment together is more and more powerful,so the equipment with router and switch founction will become a new growth point of the market.This paper provides a design method of a router with switch function, though formulatting the project, selecting the chip, designing schematic, designing PCB, use MPC8321 as CPU, use BCM5324 as switch chip, design a router combined with a layer 2 switch.The CPU of this router provides 2 10/100M ethernet interfaces as up data interface,and 2 UART interfaces.The BCM5324 provides 24 10/100M ethernet interfaces as down data interface.This system also provides a PCI backplate slot and a VM slot, using to connected with other equipment that have a PCI backplate slot or connected with a CE1 or a synchronization interfaces that can communicate with other net.This essay divided into three sections included seven chapters. The first part included two chapters, mainly introduct the major work on the subject, the background research and related technologies.The second part included the design selection, chip function introduction and the detailed hardware design of the router. The last section is a introduction of the transplant of operating system and the problem met in this project.
