With the application of computer systems and the development of communication networks,communication functions is increasingly more and more important. Communication is both between the computers and peripherals, including information exchange between computers.As series communication delivers message in a transmission line one bit by one bit,the number of transmission lines is less.And it can be used for information delivery by the existing telephone network, so it is particularly suitable for long-distance transmission.For those people-machine switching equipments not far away from computers and peripheral equipments serial-stored,such as, terminal,printer,logic analyzers,disk,it is also common by serial mode exchanging data.In regard to real-time control and management,in using more than one computer processors to control the distribution of the composition of classification systems,the communication between the CPUs are generally by serial methods.Therefore, serial interface is commonly used in computer interface applications.Many peripherals and computers communicate by serial manner,serial manner mentioned here refers to the transmission of information between peripherals and interface circuits.Actually,it is still working in parallel manner between CPU and interface.Multi-serial data communication is an important branch in computer application,which the main research is multi-serial collection,storage and processing of data.Multi-serial data communication card based on PCI bus technology has been a hot pursuit in market.The issue roots in Beijing Vanlink Communication & Technology Co. Ltd.In order to meet custom demand,according to existing MPC8321 router motherboard,the company puts forward a 4-serial ports card solution based on PCI agent mode. This article puts forward the solution,through scheme establishment,chip selection,schematic design,PCB design, the scheme takes MPC8321 as the main CPU, which can work in two modes—host mode and agent mode.The agent mode is adopted. The MPC8321 has a QUICC EngineTM Block,which has 5 UCCs.The scheme uses 4 of them,which are configured as serial interface.The agent board communicates with motherboard by PCI agent mode.This essay is divided into three sections including seven chapters.The first part includes two chapters,mainly introduct the major work on the subject,the background research and related technologies.The second part included the design selection,chip function introduction and the detailed hardware design of the router. The last section is a introduction of the transplant of operating system and the problem met in this project.
