The ideology trend of left-wing literature and humanism are the two main branches of the Chinese literary world in the 1930s. During the whole developing history of literature in the 20th, the two distinctive ideology trends conflict and intermingle with each other, which formulate co-existing unique culture scenery. Popular literature, which is generated at that particular period and famous for its character of modernism, is regarded as the earliest party journal in China. The thesis selects the Popular literature during the period of 1930s as data, adopts the theory of social and literary as support and analyzes the changing and developing process of Popular literature so as to discover meaning , value and role of Popular in terms of the context of the left-wing ideology. The thesis is composed of four chapters:Chapter One concerns the history of the generation and transferring of the notion of Popular. It is generally accepted that the notion of popular is come into born during the process of England industrialization and urbanization in the later period of the 19th. This notion has the quality of derogatory, and lacks the connotation of modernism, which is occasion the summit of monks in Japan. In China, while hu shi, chen duxiu, zhou zuoren, zhu ziqing, and yu pingbo advocate the ideology of common people and propose the notion of popular, popular is extended from the layer of ideology to that of cultural connotation.Chapter Two discusses the specific meaning of the pre-period of popular. We endeavor to analyze the theme, intention, inclination and style of Popular, which is established by yu dafu. Through the using of the theory of social and literary, this part mainly analyzes the idealism and paranoid of yu dafu's notion of popular, and dialectically deny the opinion of yu dafu thought as of dominant political , hierarchical and possessive feature in the campus of left-wing. Subsequently, we can realize that the complicated and conflicting status between the ideology of left-wing literature and humanism in the 1930s, and the valuable meaning of popular discourse during their contradictory conflicting.Chapter Three stresses the discussion of construing of the literary discourse of the period of post popular. It holds that the contribution of tao jingsun to the development of Popular literature is the transferring of yu dafu's original humanism traditional trend of the May Fourth Movement to be a party journal of left-wing. All theirs efforts, especially the serial discussion of the notion of popular, exert essential influence to the development of the left-wing literature and make preparation for mao zedong's advocating of literary works serving farmer , worker and solider in the 1940s. Nevertheless, the political achievement of the notion of popular distorts yu dafu's original intention of the creation of popular.Chapter Four end the thesis with the suggestion as, the aims the presenting analysis is to reveal the transferring process of the metaphysical notion of popular and its actual status in the literary world rather than thoroughly analyzing the developing trend of the notion of popular and its historic background as well as the discussion among different scholars in terms of its correctness. Although it presents as a particular form of discourse, it gives us the super temporal and spatial historical cultural penetrating spirit.
