Cooperative virtual reference service is not a new service model, which based on the virtual reference service models. But, it is a higher level of the virtual reference service, it aimed to provide users with more information on all of the fields with little time. It can provide more information service that a single agency or single subject experts can not meet the user's information needs on many areas.Compare to the library's virtual reference service, cooperative virtual reference service has distinct characteristics. It will be more suited to the inquiry about information resource of the modern society. In this model, The traditional pattern of library's inter-library cooperation is broken, libraries not only can share information resource but also the implementation, human resource, equipment resource and technology resource,user can get the information that they want at anytime and anywhere form libraries and information institutions, without to worry about the time and place restrictions of the information agency. This service model more in line with the user's new working methods and requirements in the network environment.In this paper, the author do a systematic summary of the theory and practice in collaborative virtual reference service at home and abroad, and give a comparison of some of the representative virtual reference project. Try to explore the specific operational mechanisms that suit to the library's virtual reference service of our country, including the staff mechanism, the user mechanism, the working mechanisms, the quality control, the protection mechanisms of intellectual property rights, and so on. Finally, summarized the operating mechanism of cooperative virtual reference service and give some advice.
