In the tide of the information-based construction nowadays, the digital library has been one of the focus of the dometic and international infrastructure. Moreover, virtual reference service is regarded as the key business of the digital library, it has been developed as the important operation in order to provide all-directions service for obtaining information resource. At presence, Based which, virtual reference service could not satisfy the readers'requires of the characteristic and high efficiency, the paper puts forward the study on the application of the techniques of P2P in virtual reference service system.On the basis of investigating widely the present condition of virtual reference service system based on numbers of digital libraries and reading quantities of related documents at home and abroad, the thesis analyzes systematicly the service mode, operation mechanism, communication principle and so on. Furtherly, it analyzes the weakness of virtual reference service system and combine the techniques of P2P based distributed characteristic. Thus, the thesis brings forward the mode of virtual reference service system based P2P. The study includes detailed it'scontents as follows. Firstly, the paper sets up the mode of virtual reference service system based P2P, elaborates the process of the system operation, describes the function of the system mode. Secondly, it deeply analyzes the two key function mold included real-time online consultant system and the distributed FAQ. Through the study of the mode based the application of the techniques of P2P in virtual reference service system, the system has certain advantage and high efficiency. it would incarnate indeed the ideas of information knowledge service, which regards the readers as the centre.
