As the development of manufacturing industries, RE/RP integrated technology is playing an increasingly important role in the design of complex surface parts. It not only makes the design cycle shorter and improves the product replacement rate, but also provides an unprecedented shortcut in design and development of new products.Complex surface part (bicycle saddle) is used for rapid design and development as application object in the dissertation. The rapid development pattern of complex surface products which are at the core of RE/RP integrated technology is discussed deeply. The main contents of the dissertation are as following:1. The concept of RE and RP, the scope of application and the research status at home and abroad are expounded. The framework of RE/RP technology integration system at this stage are discussed, and every framework's strengths and weaknesses are researched. The main research content and significance of the disseration are discribed.2. The key technology and related theories of RE/RP are researched. Compared with various relevant technology and process methods as well as combined with characteristics of the subject and existed equipment of school, the integrated approach of RE/RP is choosed, and the framework of integrated system is constructed.3. The equipment and the methods of data collection are introduced in RE. Non-contact data acquisition is proceed by laser scanning to bicycle saddle, then the point cloud data are handled by the software named Imageware. After that, boundary line, characteristic curves and constraint curves are constructed. Through the data interface, the constructed curves are imported in Pro/E. Finally according to these curves, surface fitting is carried out and the CAD model is reconstructed in Pro/E.4. ANSYS software is used to do finite element analysis on the bike saddle. Through market research and analysis, combined with product innovation design philosophy, the redesign of bicycle saddle is carried out.5. Combined with the characteristics of the bicycle saddle model and the existed rapid prototyping equipments in laboratory, appropriate rapid prototyping process is selected, the bicycle saddle is dealed with by MEM process model, and the rapid prototyping steps and process of the saddle are discussed. The rapid manufacture of the product is achieved。Finally, the research work and the results of the full text are summarized, and the plans for future research is presented.
