The structure and functions of both the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system and its pre-&post-processing module are analyzed in this paper, the framework of the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system is designed, the pre-&post-processing algorithm of the module and the program’ s developing methods has been studied.Some research factors of the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system are discussed in this paper:(1) in order to achieve a flexible and extensive program, the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system’s architecture has been designed;(2) a pre-processing module that generate triangular and quadrangle mesh is implemented, the Delaunay triangular meshing algorithm, frontier meshing algorithm, indirect quadrangle meshing algorithm, and mesh quality control and optimizing methods are studied, the data structure which is needed in meshing algorithm is studied;(3) a post-processing module that generate contour line map, velocity field map and deformation map is implemented, the post-processing algorithm are studied, including:contour line generating algorithm, data interpolation algorithm, color mapping algorithm, etc;(4) program implement method are discussed, the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system’s pre-&post-processing module has been developed by using C++programming language and OpenGL.The framework of the rigid-plastic finite element simulation system which is developed by using object-oriented method can easily add different kinds of algorithm, such as meshing algorithm; the pre-&post-processing module has good presentation which satisfied the simulation of metal cutting. This paper’s work can provide practical support to develop a rigid-plastic finite element simulation system.
