With the development of information era, many kinds of businesses about on network appear, sound, image, data and so on increases dramatically, and grains delivered by network become bigger and bigger, so it is necessary to enhance bandwidth of communication network. After applying new technologies and equipments, such as NGN soft-switch network, IP load bearing network, broadband IP metropolitan networks, 3G network, operation businesses are required to supply better load-bearing ability and safety for existing metropolitan network. But existing metropolitan network has been established for a long time, and construction period is long, so network structures is simple, business function is simplex, and network protection ability is poor. So it is urgent to optimize metropolitan network. This article illustrates by the case of integrated service transport network of new Unicom of Taian to analyze the problems of current network, and gives advice for further adjust, and puts forward solutions for future development and business support.First, the article analyzes actuality of Taian metropolitan network briefly, and illustrates DWDM technology simply. Through stating the development and basic theory of DWDM technology, and introducing new technology of OTN, the importance of DWDM technology in metropolitan network establishment is educed. In the following part, theoretical and practical basis for transformation of metropolitan network belonged by new Unicom of Taian are gotten through analyzing group network characteristic of DWDM technology.Secondly, the article analyzes current metropolitan network of new Unicom of Taian in detail, and finds problems from many perspectives. For example, network structure isn't clear, equipment capacity is low, network management and business control is dispersive, all kinds of businesses are mixed, cables among bureaus are expended quickly, resource available rate decreases year by year, and so on.Next, the article puts forward a solution for optimizing metropolitan network, using new network technology, such as DWDM, GE over DWDM and so on, aiming at current problems that exists in metropolitan network of Taian, and constructs new structural model for the metropolitan network.Then, the article evaluates the performance of the optimized metropolitan network of Taian, which shows that the new metropolitan network will be a loading bearing network that network level is clear, network structure is flat, and can provide high speed, high bandwidth, high stability, and discrepant service ability. Besides, it can meet requirements for developing all kinds of business, and realize goal that metropolitan network can supply different services. At the same time, according to work experience, writer puts forward own opinion to solve problems that easily happen in period of network evaluation and test.Finally, in summary of the paper, writer makes general evaluation for reconstruction project of metropolitan area network in Taian, approves good benefit of the project, meanwhile, points out some problem, such as technology isn't advanced enough, and scale looks insufficient slightly, and so on. Besides, writer puts forwards own opinion to application prospect of wavelength division multiplexing technology, points out that in the future, OTN technology will substitute wavelength division multiplexing as main force in metropolitan area network construction.
