With the development of electronic information technology, virtual instrument technology has a large number of applications in the industrial control and related fields. The virtual instrument technology is the use of high-performance modular hardware, combined with the highly efficient and flexible software to complete a variety of test, measurement and other automation applications; the network technology has developed so sophisticated that the remote monitoring and controlling become more and more popular in the monitoring and controlling systems. In this paper, the CAN-bus is used to collect the data, and the GPRS module to transmit the data in the system. CAN-bus has been one of the most promising industry's fieldbus because of its various advantages such as reliability, real-time, long transmission distance and low cost. GPRS module, whose cost is lower than others, can connect the servers with the wireless Network anytime and anywhere, so the CAN-bus and GPRS has been chosen as the basic framework in the system. Software is used the NI's LabWindows/CVI, which is a complete ANSI C development environment for instrument control, automation detection and data processing applications. In this paper, firstly the features, theories and developments of CAN bus and GPRS are introduced simply; the next three chapters, which describe the system design, the achievement and test results, were completed on the system hardware, software design and the testing and analysis of the whole remote monitoring system. First, the temperature, pressure, flow and other data are collected to a computer with the CAN-bus; then the data are collated and sent to the local server with the GPRS module; at last, the data will be received and displayed on the software interface in local server computer. Through these three steps, the system has been monitored remotely, and all the data are saved to the EXCEL file for the further analysis of treatment.Currently the system is running well, and the basic desired goal has been realized.
