Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a non-contact automatic identification technology, which has been widely used in various kinds of fields for its advantages of high recognition rate, perfect anti-jamming ability and great storage capability. However, RFID has many element types and multiple standards, which leads to the difference between the electronic tag and traditional digital-analog mixed chip in testing. Also, it blocks off the development of the application and development of RFID technology extremely. Therefore, an automatic testing system for the high-frequency RFID tag, compatible with multiple mainstream criteria, is investigated and designed in this thesis. The conformance testing of tag from physical level to application level is provided in the system, which is of great practical significance and guiding value for the establishment of the open automatic testing platform for RFID tag.The automatic testing system for tag based on the virtual instrument technology, which is divided into horizontal and vertical parts, is controlled and managed by a terminal computer uniformly. The former is composed of the modular instruments for transmitting and receiving the HF signal. And the latter is made up of stable and efficient software for the effective device-tag interaction, packing and unpacking of the data format, display and storage of the information. In addition, a series of expanding functions are provided in the testing system, such as extraction and analysis of the electric parameters in time and frequency domain from the acquired signal and using anti-collision algorithms for eliminating the communications collision between instrument and tags. Also, the architecture based on the software radio increases the flexibility and openness, which makes it easy for extension and maintenance.The comparison between theoretical and experimental results demonstrates that the automatic testing system is capable of completing the conformance testing of multi-standard tags. It can analyze the parameters of reply signal for evaluation on the performance of the E-tags rapidly and accurately; record and store the testing results for retrieving and reviewing the data in real time; expand the testing functions on the opening software platform. Moreover, it indicates that the capability parameters are achieved to fulfill the design goals and meet the testing demands of the E-tags.It has been shown that it is an effective way to construct the automatic testing system of the RFID tags by software, which overcomes the limitations of fixed functions of the traditional instrument and has obvious advantages of low cost, high integrity, strong extensibility and so on.
