Next Generation Optical Network Application On Local MAN

With the increasing capacity of the backbone networks, strong growth on the data services, diversified interface capacity of MAN , and expansion of the business networks, current mode of transmission based primarily on ring network has inevitably shown its inherent shortcomings.As a result, the concept and theory on Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) and Automatically Switched Optical Network based on MESH have been developing steadily into the application stage. ASON technology, along years of development, has become more and more mature.After the recent years of building-up, Operators' Optical Network has come to relatively sizable scale. However, new requirements has been raised against the changes of the entire network and communication environment, increasing number of new data and media services, as well as the opening 3G services. Thus, how to achieve a smooth transition over the transmission network is a critical issue for the moment.This article is based on the research of the key features and technologies of ASON. It is an in-depth analysis over the solution of Local Transmission Network, based on both the local network scenarios and the existing transmission network environment.
