MicroChannel Plate-Photomultiplier (MCP-PMT) is a kind of Photomultiplier which electron multipliers (dynodes) is microchannel plate (MCP). Compare with traditional electric-static- focused dynode structure PMT, these kinds of Photomultipliers which used MCPs (not discrete dynodes structures) and proximity-focused structure (not electric-static- focused dynode structure) have many good performances. All of these are origin of the short distance between photocathode and anode, and the characteristics of microchannel plate. By investigation above MCP-PMT performances , it will direct us to design, manufacture better products, and help us to correct choose and use them.According to the characteristics of MCPs and relative performances of electron-optical system of proximity-focused, the stress is research the time response characteristics, pulse counting performances, magnetic characteristics and performances of gain ,dark current, etc. The measurement methods and application fields are discussed. In the process of investigation of their time response characteristics, the physics models are found, some index relative to time characteristics are calculated which compare to measure value. All of these will provide theory base to design ultra-fast response MCP-PMT. Finally, review their development direction and trend.
