Wireless sensor network consists of small nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communications capabilities. It's an integrated intelligent information system which includes information gathering, processing and transmission. In military application, environmental observation and forecasting system, health care,smart home, building condition monitoring and many other fields, wireless sensor networks have broad application prospects and it's a very active research area.IPv6 protocol familiarity are primary protocols for the next generation Internet,which has done a great improvement in address space, message format, security and others.6LoWPAN is based on these two technologies whose aim is to combine these two technologies together. A discussion group has been founded in IETF to make related standard and now 6LoWPAN is becoming one of the most popular field in network research.This paper begins with the concepts and current situation of wireless sensor networks, summarizes the wireless sensor networks technology and IEEE 802.15.4 standard, introduces the detailed functions of 6LoWPAN Adaptation Layer, and gives a brief description of NS-2 and the 802.15.4 NS-2 simulator. Discussed the adaptation layer of the packet formats, the adaptation layer and re-slicing the compressed header as well as in detail the adaptation layer 6LoWPAN tree topology and routing algorithm, tree routing algorithm proposed improvements and solutions. Through NS-2 network simulation, analysis of the tree adaptation layer 6LoWPAN routing performance.
