Because of the industrial environment market is divided so particular, the smart sensor network and types of field-bus are various, which have merits and demerits respectively in practical application. Lack of the interface standard of sensors brings the severe challenge to manufacturer. The method of making the sensors which support all communication protocols has become very important and costliness. The IEEE 1451 standard is pushed out in these factors; it has defined a group of interface standards of smart sensor network. The wired connections are used broadly to connect the sensors in the industrial environment market, but the industrial environment is bad and hard to routing. The Wireless Networked Sensors technology can solve this problem effectively. So the IEEE standards push out the wireless standard, the IEEE 1451 standard. The IEEE 1451 standard is a new standard that is studied by a few researchers aboard and none research institution and man has detailedly studied on it in china. In addition, the manufacturer of sensors at home and abroad has some wrong cognitions of the relationship of IEEE 1451 standard. So the research of the IEEE 1451 standard and how to make it used in the industrial environment has high research value. This paper firstly studies the standards for smart sensor networks, analyzes the existing problems of the current standards, and then IEEE 1451 standard can effectively solve these problems such as the standards of field-bus are not uniform. Then, the paper introduces the IEEE 1451 standard; particularly, introduces transmitter electronic data sheets which are referred to the IEEE 1451.5 standards, and summarizes the current development of the standards of wireless communications. The smart wireless sensor network which is defined by the IEEE 1451 standard contains two basic nodes: the network capacity application processors (NCAP) and wireless transmitter interface module (WTIM). This design combines the standard of IEEE 1451.0 and that of IEEE 1451.5 together. By using the general API for encapsulating at IEEE 1451.0 layer and IEEE 1451.5 layer, making wireless communications equipment independent to the design of the nodes, which greatly makes the design and production of the smart wireless senor nodes easier, and also offers the interoperability of manufacturers products as well as the standards of wireless communications. I designed and simulated the NCAP nodes in the end.
