The technique of pulse compression is widely applied in radar and sonar systems because it resolves the contradiction between action distance and differentiate. By the development of FPGA and CPLD, the advantage of FPGA is obvious comparing DSP device. The digital technique of pulse compression signal colligation and generation based on FPGA becomes the tendency in today.Based on the theory of pulse compression and analysis of the arithmetic of pulse compression in time-domain and frequency domain, the frequency-domain digital pulse compression of broad band radar LFM signal has been realized on the hardware platform of FPGA. It completes 1024 points pulse compression based on FFT-IPCORE which is designed by author with pipe line method.The main content in this dissertation include:1. Analyzed the time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics of LFM signal. Analyzed the frequency-domain pulse compressing performance and compared it with the time-domain. Based on the parameter of pulse compression, we chose the method of frequency-domain digital pulse compression.2. Have introduced the software condition for the system running and debugging. Completed the program for the simulation of the system using MATLAB and Quartus II together.3. Designed and tested the 1024 point FFT-IPCORE module which is designed with pipeline method. Analyzed FFT-IPCORE performance and spending. Analyzed the others module of the system in the same way.4. Based on the 1024 point FFT-IPCORE, design and test the pulse compressing system. Analyzed the system performance in full way, such as processing time, precision and spending in hardware and so on. The frequency-domain digital pulse compression of broad band (B=25MHz and B=12.5MHz) radar LFM signal has been realized on FPGA.The system is realized with large dynamic range, high precision, light weight,short processing time, small bulk and power. Especially, the high processing rate is also tested the high performance and practicability on signal process of modem radar.
