Pulse compression (PC) has been widely used because of its far radar range and good range resolution. The rapid development of circuit technology and in particular the FPGA technology is applying and developing in the field of signal processing has provided digital radar signal processing the essential support. The research of high-speed and real-time pulse compression system has been a hot topic in the field of digital radar signal processing.Most of the digital real-time pulse compression system were developed on multi-processor and mainly used DSP device. they have complex structure. their common disadvantage is their large size and awful extension. they can't satisfy the demand of radar's miniaturization .This dissertation mainly completed the research of a real time digital PC system with miniaturization and excellent extension attribute.The article first introduces the theory of the LFM pulse compression; then studies the features of LFM in time and frequency domain, the methods of realization of PC, the reason of range side-lobe and its solution. According to the system requirements, We proposals a program based on the high-frequency AD device and Vertex4 FPGA hardware platform in frequency-domain and simulation the system plan with the Matlab tools. This PC system consisted of sampling part and PC part. In sampling part, it used ADI's AD9430 which could work with high sampling speed up to 210MHz and chose the High-speed differential low-voltage transmission interface LVDS to transport the sampling data to PC part which is based on Xilinx's FPGA device XC4VSX35-11FFG668C to realize PC in frequency-domain. This thesis demonstrates the principle of choosing the system program and hardware platform, analyze the important design point of data sampling and transmission up to 200 M high-speed, and focused on the FFT Algorithm based on FPGA-platforms and block- floating-point technology and the balance of processing time and chip resources, and also discussed the time division multiplexing technology of the chip resources and how to improve the system of handling frequency , Finally, analyze the system's performance and gives the test results.The broadband real-time digital pulse compression system as a pre-research project achieved the anticipated requirements and accumulated technological base for the next step in the application to the engineering practice.
