Nowadays, SMT(Surface Mounting Technology), whose appearance brings revolutionary change, is one of the most advanced electronics assembly technology. With the rapid development in microelectronics, SMT is increasingly demanded. Placement Machine is the crucial device in the whole process of SMT. During the development of Mount Machine, the position system of surface mount component(SMC) based on machine vision is widely used in industrial practice owing to its high efficiency, high credibility and low cost. However, the domestic research of the technology is still at the starting stage and ranks far below the developed country. Therefore, most of the surface mounting equipment depend upon importing. As the continuously upgrading of the device performance criteria, the vision position plays a more and more important role.The research platform in this paper is QSP-2 mount machine. Based on the independently developed master program, the position system with machine vision is developed.This paper firstly analyses the principle of the vision position system of surface mount component, and selects the component of hardware and software. Secondly, systematically studies the technique of image processing used in the vision position system, chooses the image processing algorithms and validate them by giving corresponding examples. Thirdly, selects the edge invariant moment as the object recognition algorithm after comparing template matching with feature invariant moment. Finally, accomplishes the development and debugging of the software system.
