Research And Implement Of A Grid Based Sleeping Algorithm In ZigBee Wireless Network

With the development of wireless and embedded technology,the role of the wireless sensor network plays a more and more important roles in the field of scientific research and environmental monitoring.Obviously the energy consumption of the ZigBee network is less than the other wireless networks.Battery provides power to most nodes in the ZigBee network,so the problems of how to reduce power consumption and increase the lifetime of the ZigBee network arouse more and more attention.In the wireless ZigBee networks with high density of node distribution,the lifetime of the network can be greatly improved if more nodes can switch to the sleeping state under the guarantee of adequate network coverage.In this paper,we propose a grid-based sleeping algorithm(ZGBSA) to effectively switch the state of the nodes in the ZigBee network,and then the lifetime of the ZigBee network is improved. We simulate ZGBSA via Matlab and observe an effectively increase of the lifetime of the nodes in the ZigBee network. This paper also implements the ZGBSA sleeping algorithm in the kit of CC2431ZDK:all of the alive nodes in the ZigBee network send position and energy frame periodicity,then the coordinator applied the ZGBSA algorithm based on the information of the position and energy of the alive nodes and broadcast the sleep information frame to the entire network.All the nodes execute the programs according to the frame.The coordinator send the data based on the information frame received from the nodes through a serial port to the PC.The program of Labview displays the temperature and the coordinate of the nodes,and the program also saves the temperature data for the future research.The implements in the CC2431ZDK imply that all the nodes in the ZigBee network can effectively transmit the data packets and switch the power mode.
