| With the developing of Internet technology, the network scale increases rapidly, and the network environment becomes more and more complex. So we need lots of network devices in order to make the network run orderly. Through monitoring the network devices, all the parameters can be got in time, the accurate analysis and processing can be done. Thus, availability can be improved. These network devices are made by different manufactures, they use different protocols and different connect technology, so we have to use advanced network management technology to manage and maintain them.Network management is to control a complex computer network, and make it complete job tasks safely and efficiently. There are many mature network management systems at present, which all have many functions such as configuration management, performance management, fault management, security management, accounting management and friendly graphical user interface. However, most of these network management systems have some limitations. For example, they don't support other manufacturers' products. Especially, they can not located network devices and manage the additional information of them. Exact geographic location and self-contained additional information of network device are very important when network device failure because they are good for finding the reason of failure, locating the point of failure and reducing the burden of network maintenance.This paper has its background of campus network. According to operating characteristics and control requirements of campus network, this paper designs a network device management system which based on geographical distribution. This system integrates the traditional network device management technology and geographic information technology. Detection of the geographic information and operation situation of campus network devices and the remote controlling of these devices can achieve these goals such as optimization of campus network environment, improving the stability of network device, reducing network manager's onerous task. This system uses MapInfo to design GIS platform, and uses VB6.0 to design the entire network management system. By using the SNMP protocol to visit the MIB of campus network device to obtain device information. Using SQL SERVER 2000 to establish building database and network device database and bind them together successfully. At last, setting up network test environment and analyzing the operation situation of network device. |
