In this paper, a solution to remote monitoring and diagnosing of PROFIBUS system in the condition of industrial Ethernet network is proposed, which was based on an embedded device integrating with embedded, Internet and PROFIBUS diagnosis technology.The hardware of the referred embedded device included, dsPIC33F microcontroller of Microchip Company, LAN91C111 Ethernet controller of SMSC Company, isolation transformer, interface of RJ 45 and UART and so on. At the side of software, it introduced an RTOSμC/OS-Ⅱand the reduced TCP/IP stackμC/TCP-IP to realize Internet communication. For more, basing on that a HMI (human machine interface) of HTTP protocol/Browser was designed. According to PROFIBUS, the algorithm of how to analyze diagnostic data received was showed and displayed those results on the PC client terminal to monitor and diagnose PROFIBUS system.Diagnostic theory of embedded device, how to interface to PROFIBUS system and Internet network, how to design the whole software and how to connect the hardware was discussed in the paper. Porting RTOSμC/OS-Ⅱand the reduced TCP/IP stackμC/TCP-IP to microcontroller was discussed in details. What's the most; it analyzed how to design the tasks and how to schedule those tasks. Later, the result pictures were showed at the end of this paper, which proved that the proposed solution is feasible.Comparing to the traditional method based on PC and OPC technology, although the solution proposed in this paper induced a little deterioration in diagnostic performance; it can reduce the cost of the PROFIBUS system effectively and promote the method to remote monitoring and diagnosing of PROFIBUS system to embedded and low-cost evolution. That extended the application of PROFIBUS system widely.
