With the increasing development of embedded systems. ARM processor and graphics display devices have been applied more and more widely, especially in the environment of human-machine interaction applications. Therefore, adopting the method of liquid crystal display(LCD) with software programming in vehicles to achieve the function of auto switching of displaying a variety of functional status will be the future development trend and fashion of vehicle instrumentation. This article is committed to all-digital instrumentation system for car design and development research, mainly explains the building and implementation method of the embedded systems platform, and realized the means of graphically displaying complex automotive information in the environment of the embedded Linux operating system and ARM microprocessor-based platform with a liquid crystal display. In order to facilitate the use of non-professional users, MiniGUI is adopted as the graphical user interface in the system. a set of light weight window and graphics device interface is defined for the application programe by MiniGUI, by using these interfaces, each application can create a number of the main window, and then control such as button and textbox can be created in the main window. With the aided supporting of the embedded system hardware and operating system, all kinds of information interfaces relevant to the vehicle and driving condition are integrated to a display interface terminal in the system. For more display cases, we can use video switching technology to switch displaying of different content in the LCD screen through the software interface and a variety of processing software connecting, and switching function will be accomplished by the button. Finally, a simulation experiment is given in the article which adopted CAN bus interface to transmit vehicle speed, engine rotational speed, oil pressure, oil amount, water temperature, wheel box pressure and other status of vehicles. The experimental results show that the provided virtual dashboard meets the need of vehicle working parameters and status display, and could be extended and configured easily.
