In the day when virtual reality (V.R.) technology and network technique have been rapidly developing, it is an innovation and application in maritime education and training field for the research and development of engine room simulator based on Web3D. The technology of three-dimensional modeling and simulating on internet has been more and more favors by users owing to three-dimensional scene's reality, interacting with scene in real-time, management in convenience and cheapness in price.Today, engine room simulator, which has been widely used in marine engineering training-operation, is a kind of semi-physical, mixing simulator. During practical using, this kind of plant has appeared many problems, such as: weakness in working stability, extending function, second-development and limitation in the quantity of receive training students and in the training place. Because V.R. engine room simulator can been used by receive training students to accomplish interacting with the scene in the state of simulating practical operational condition, it has a remarkable advantage: 1) Basing on internet, students can use this plant to train in the mode of unlimited times, places and personal number, 2) It can help promoting training quality in high-performance and low-price.Being as one of the important part of V.R. engine room simulator, the researching item in this paper uses WMS2000 engine room simulator as the prototype of three-dimensional scene of main engine control consol, and uses Autochief IV main engine remote controlling system used in 1600 TEU container, which has been adopted by WMS2000 engine room simulator, as the prototype of simulating operation. Basing on the researching environment of internet and VRML, the study contents and designed mode of this item include: 1) By mean of using suitable modeling tools three-dimensional main engine control consol in engine control roon(E.C.R) and its instruments and meters are modeled, and then construct V.R. M/E control consol; 2) According to practical operational logic and process, basing on the V.R. M/E control consol, the starting and safety protection simulating operation for M/E are designed; 3) The interacting interface is designed to reality issuing the scene on internet. Owing to using a special scene working environment, V.R. M/E control consol can be rapidly downloaded and showed and be dynamicaly interacting with scene in real-time, and also overcome the disadvantages of traditional downloading mode, which images are delivered to user one by one from web server.It is an emphasis for the study of main engine control consol modeling and its starting and safety protection simulating operation in this paper. Using the modeling tools such as 3DS Max, Web3Dtools to construct the three-dimensional model of V.R. M/E control consol and its facilities, then its starting and safety protection simulating operation can be implemented by mean of using the nodes of"Interpolator","Sensor"and"Script"in VRML and JavaScript program. In order to make the scene being transmitted rapidly, some optimizing measures are introduced and carried out to reduce the data quantity of this system.Users can be convenience to visit, browse and interact with scene in real time.
