Traditional method in field data collection need people go to the field, which cause the slow information feedback. It becomes harder in some places with complex terrain or bad weather. Not only data collection is very difficult, but also the safety of collection staff can hardly be guaranteed. With the development of wireless communications technology and network, more and more electronic devices are equipped with wireless and network functions. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology which can link the Internet and wireless communications network can be used in many areas, such as Internet development, mobility management and wireless monitoring .This paper aims to solve the field data transmission problems by using GPRS used in field data collection and transmission system. AVR microcontroller is chosen to control the remote node. After the sensors finish the data collection, AVR microcontroller control the GPRS module (MC55) through the serial port to send the data to the network or to the mobile phone. The Data Center establishes TCP and UDP server, receives the data through the Socket, and then stores in the database. Dynamic curves are generated in the Data Centre at the same time. The principle and application of GPRS is introduced in chapter 1. AVR (ATMEGA16) microcontroller is introduced in chapter 2. The usage of digital temperature and humidity sensor (SHT10) and the dust sensor (DSM501) are given in chapter 3. The software and hardware design of data collection node is described in chapter 4. The methods for receiving and processing data in data center are presented in the chapter 5. The performance and test results of the entire system are shown in the last chapter.
