By building a grid system, distributed resources(data, computing ability, storage ability) can be furthest used. Islands of the resources will be eliminated and the resources will be shared. Access control is a very important aspect in security of grid portal system. A stable, efficient access control policy can decrease mistake,elevate the efficiency and insure the Confidentiality,Integrity and Availability of data and service. Role-based Access Control (RBAC) can enhance access control capability and reduce the complexity of authorization management effectively, it becomes a major security technology in the field of security access control, but the application of RBAC is also immature. In practice, it is not flexible enough in managing access control.Based on the research and development of RBAC in the Ocean Data Visualization Grid Portal System (ODVGPS), the main research work and innovations of this paper can be described as follows:(1) Grid portal and the Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Models are researched, Thinking over the ODVGPS having big numbers of users, resources and user types,complex relationship among users, extends the common RBAC model, the new model makes the access control more convenient and flexible.(2) The RBAC in ODVGPS is divided into View Layer, Business Logic Layer, Data management Layer and Database Layer, It is easy to reuse,maintain and extend the RBAC. The detail design and implementation of the RBAC in ODVGPS is given.(3) The advantages of using portal frame named GridSphere to construct grid portal are analyzed. The technology of Portlet is used. Functions of the grid portal are distributed to the Portlets, which can be customized, appended and deleted in dependency in the grid portal. By using the technology, it is easy to develop, distribute and update the grid portal; The developing cost is reduced; the developing speed and the stability of grid Portal are improved.(4) Deploy and add the RBAC Portlets to ODVGPS and give the test for the RBAC Portlets in ODVGPS.This paper Deploy and add the RBAC Portlets to ODVGPS successfully. According to the function testing and the performance analysis of the RBAC Portlets in ODVGPS, It proves the exactness and feasibility of the extended model. It also indicates RBAC in ODVGPS is ease of use,flexible and secure. The design and implementation also has referenced value for design and implementation of other access control systems.
