Study Of The User-Oriented Information Service Models Of The National Agricultural Library In China

The construction and development of the National Agricultural Library, which has experienced for many years, has greatly promoted the agricultural scientific literature resource supporting and the information services in China. With the development of the digital information resources and the network-based information services, the way that users access to information and related services as well as the depth of information needs is undergoing profound changes, which has brought opportunities and challenges into the information services of the National Agricultural Library. In this new situation, in order to providing different kinds of users with personalized and knowledge-based services on the basis of their distinct characteristics of the information needs, it is necessary to discuss the innovation of information service models and explore its own advantage and value in literature resources.This paper introduced the basic theory and the development process of information service model, analyzed the internal factors and external environment, which have influenced the development of the information service of the National Agricultural Library, summed up the current model of information services and pointed out the problems. Basing on the analysis of information needs of different user groups, new information service models have been built. In this dissertation, an evaluation index system of information service model was also designed. At last, some recommendations on how to conduct the information services model were proposed.The major conclusions and contributions of this study were as follows:First, both the internal environment and the external environment affected the construction of the information service models of the National Agricultural Library directly or indirectly. Internal environment, which was directly related to the information services business, included the resources environment, technical environment and business environment; the external environment consisted of the user environment, cooperation environment and competitive environment.Second, the major information service model of the National Agricultural Library could be described as the traditional service model and the integrated service model based on the National Agricultural Library literature and information services platform. Due to the limitation and the development level of the information technology, organizational structure, management system and many other factors, there were still some drawbacks with the information service model of the National Agricultural Library.Third, the users of the National Agricultural Library were divided into five groups: agricultural scientific researchers, agricultural decision makers and operators, the developers of agricultural technology, agricultural extension officers and students groups, each type of group has its own purpose on the use of information service, and also has different needs on the information and services. With the development of the society, the structure of the user groups will be more complex. As a large group of potential users, the library should pay more attention to the farmer's information needs, and provide personalized services according to their specific needs. Fourth, this study presented the objective, function and structure of the user-oriented information service model of the National Agricultural Library, established the promotion strategy, as well as the process strategy of constructing the model, and thus to build the opening integrated literature information self-service model, personalized information service model, and the subject knowledge service model, all of which constructed the sub-models of the user-oriented information service model. The three sub-models fully reflected the concepts of the user-oriented information service model, which focused on the users'needs, and provided users with personalized, intelligent and knowledge-based integrated services.In this dissertation, the information service models of the National Agricultural Library were established, whishing to provide some reference to and play a positive role in promoting the information service.
