With the rapid development of the electronic technology, multimedia technology and network technology, video surveillance system is going toward embedded, digital and networked direction. Taking full advantage of LSI (Large Scale Integration) and networks of scientific and technological achievements, the embedded video surveillance system has the advantage of small size, stable performance. However, with the continuous development of power line communication, video monitor on power line gets irreplaceable.The monitor system is composed of the monitor center and terminal. This dissertation includes the design and implement of terminal software. ARM9 (S3C2410) is the main processor in the system with Linux operating system as its software platform. Using USB camera as video capturing equipment, with software for video data compression, it completes video capturing, compression, transmission and control.This dissertation introduces the development and recent status of the surveillance system on power line, as well as its advantages at first. The key technologies are compared and chosen in the system. Then it introduces the integer construction of the system. According to the characteristics of power-line environment, the system's functional requirements and communication protocol stack are studied. At the same time, streaming media transmission and QoS are also considered in the transmission. As far as the software design, the system software and the Internet applications must be designed. First we must port the BootLoader and embedded Linux kernel to the target of ARM platform. Then, a system of video capturing and a server based on center processor module need to be designed to run on the platform of ARM. In the end, the video images are shown on the client side. The center processor module is responsible for the video collection, compression and transmission. It is the kernel part of the server. Finally, the system is tested and the plan for future development has been proposed too.
