The video surveillance system with the application of embedded network technology is the latest trend in the video monitoring field,in which video monitoring system is a product of advanced technology with the combination of electronic technology, computer technology, communication technology and automation technology. Embedded network technology has changed the system structure of the traditional video surveillance system, and met the expandability, distribution and real time of modern video surveillance system, so it is widely used in the fields of telecom, electricity, transportation, bank, irrigation and building. Whereas, most video monitoring products are expensive, especially for those occasions which do not demand high image quality but are sensitive to the price, or the application with many surveillance terminals. According to this situation, this paper presents a solution of embedded video surveillance system with low cost, combining with the requirement of project"remote surveillance system of city pollution sources"from Qingdao Science and Technology Commission. In this solution scheme, the image of video surveillance could be browsed by special video surveillance softerware, with the cheap USB camera used as the video sensor, embedded video surveillance device as the video server, and the operation system as the open source embedded Linux.This paper has analysised the technology of embedded video monitoring system from the current situation of embedded video surveillance system, put forward the whole design scheme and functions by studying the universal embedded processors and the special video compress chips, and finally presented the design scheme of embedded video surveillance system with lower cost. Then, technical details of the circuital design and the PCB design are introduced with the testing methods of major chips and related data. Based on the S3C2410 hardware design, the transplantation of embedded Linux OS and the process of USB camera driver are analyzed. USB camera driver improves video frame acquisition velocity, using continuous acquisition, double URBs and frame buffers. In the following chapter, this paper further researches video acquisition, internet transport and video uncompress from the perspective of modularized design. At the same time, memory share and multithread technology improve the system's operational efficiency in video acquisition and internet transport. The last step is the debugging and testing of the software, in which relevant schemes to the solution of the error problems are given. Finally, this paper provides specific testing data, from which we can draw a conclusion that the system hardware and software design has reached expected requirements.
